One of the 2007 ROC Planning Fellows, Chris is an avocado and citrus grower from Santa Paula. He also spent some time as a P3 Orion Pilot for the US Navy. He has been active with the Ventura AFA and the UC Hansen Trust on issues facing agriculture and the community in Ventura County.  In his blog entry, Chris offers some reflections on his experience as a ROC Planning Fellow.

Having recently had the privilege of participating in the Roots of Change Planning Fellows program, it seems appropriate to reflect on the experience. With the advantage of a word processor, perhaps I can achieve greater clarity than I feel I have when speaking off the cuff with members of my community.

It has been a long journey, four years actually since Roots of Change was born, and this day marks the beginning of a new phase. We all know the hardest challenges, the highest most rewarding climbs, take a long time. I want to share my own and ROC's perspectives on this effort, this experiment really, to actually knit a network of diverse leaders with a network of diverse funders who share a passion and vision for reforming a food system that has run its course based on principles and practices framed and formed in an earlier era.
