Recent Staff Changes at Roots of Change
Nov. 6, 2008
Roots of Change staff is evolving. We recently hired Tiffany Nurrenbern tiffany.jpg to be Network Coordinator. Many of you will meet her because her focus will be to serve the growing Changemakers Network as web master and more. Tiffany has an impressive background in political campaign work in Southern California, new media, and academic excellence. She attended UCLA for her Master’s work and before that UCSC, where she majored in history. She was a recent volunteer at Slow Food Nation, working both Changemakers Day and gathering endorsements for the Declaration. She is articulate, focused, and lightning smart. We know you will like her!

We have also recently brought aboard our first ROC Intern, Jesse Appelman. jesseappleman.jpgHe is a scholar, activist, and musician having studied at Wesleyan University, Escola Portatil de Música in Rio de Janeiro and worked at Policylink, Prevention Institute, Food First, and Moveon.org. He just completed the panel reports from Changemakers Day at Slow Food Nation, which are posted for your review. Although, Jesse will be heading off to graduate school in the fall, we are grateful we will benefit from Jesse’s contribution until then. We are impressed by his skill and commitment to the cause.

These two additions are linked to the departure of two long time members of ROC’s coordinating Team: Jon Ramer jon.jpg and Alison (Ali) Edwards. Jon, as many will know, is a very talented musician and until Haney joined us, ROC’s Web 2.0 guru. He is a brilliant thought partner, inspiring team member, and we know he will come back into the ROC world when his organization, Interra, is ready to launch a community card for food system reform work here in California.

Ali has been ROC's communications consultant and  web master since we re-launched our website in February 07 and she has done an amazing job building a diverse and rich body of content for the website, newsletter,  and the entire organization. Ali also worked with Jon on the ali&larry.jpgformation tour for the Changemakers (formerly Leadership) Network back at the same moment that the web site went live. She was instrumental, along with Nicole Mason, in working with the 07 ROC Fellows in developing the strategy document, California's Campaign for a New Mainstream in Food, Farms and Fisheries, which came out a year later.  Ali was, of course, on the original team that authored the Vivid Picture project's New Mainstream Report, which embodies ROC's vision, and was made public in December of 2005. So Ali has been at the core of important ROC work for a long time. We are already looking for ways to bring Ali back into play in the period ahead.

I want to thank Ali and Jon, on behalf of the ROC Community, for their important contributions to ROC's development and to wish them continued success in their other important work.
