| The New Mainstream 5-Year Campaign Strategy |
|
We are pleased to announce the release of California’s Campaign for a New Mainstream in Food, Farming, and Fisheries (referred to as the Campaign Strategy), a draft strategic plan that outlines how to begin implementing systemic change in the food system in the next five years. This document outlines three powerful change levers, each with multiple objectives and possible actions for 2008 - 2011. The Campaign Strategy attempts to outline the actions needed in the next five years to move the whole CA food system towards the 2030 goal of sustainability. The Campaign Strategy combines the work of hundreds of CA food system leaders. The ROC community began this work with the Vivid Picture Project and the resulting vision and indicators outlined in The New Mainstream. Over the last year, the ROC community has been hard at work detailing a strategy for implementing this vision. Last summer, the first class of ROC Planning Fellows lent their experience, expertise, and on-the-ground knowledge of the state’s food system to an intensive strategic planning process. The ROC Fellows began to identify and prioritize the work needed between 2007 and 2011 to achieve the 2030 goal for a sustainable food system. This work was then honed by members of the ROC Stewardship Council, the Business Leaders Council, the Workforce Workgroup, and ROC’s Coordinating Team, resulting in this draft 5-Year Campaign Strategy. The goals of everyone participating in the development of this strategy touch every aspect of the California food system. Their expertise and experience is as diverse as California itself, and their effort is deeply appreciated by all members of the ROC community. It is our greatest hope that this evolving strategy will help each part of the California food system develop synchronized change and achieve a sustainable food system for the entire state by 2030.
