ROC's
staff and consultants, called the Coordinating Team, serve both the Leadership
Network and the Stewardship Council by communicating, convening,
coordinating, evaluating, synthesizing, and recommending.
The Coordinating Team consists of the following staff and consultants: Coordinating Team Haney Armstrong – Director of Network Relations Haney has a wide range of experience organizing the efforts of other people and groups. Prior to joining Roots of Change, he managed the online community at Omidyar Network, a philanthropic investment firm creating opportunity for people around the world. Earlier, Haney was community manager for Linden Lab's Second Life, the 3-D virtual world built and owned by its residents. He has led teams to create broadband training programs as senior producer of Ninth House Network and has produced social-issue documentaries, computer games, and training videos with the media partnership Adair and Armstrong. Haney served as community liaison for the Palo Alto Cultural Center and was one of the founders of the Mid-peninsula Peace Center. He received a B.A. in Communications from Stanford University. Jack Chin - Consultant, Evaluation Jack is a Senior Analyst and Vice President of Organizational Learning at Blueprint Research and Design, an evaluation firm in the Bay Area. Jack has over ten years of grantmaking experience focusing on education and the environment. He has served as Co-Director of the Funders’ Forum on Environment and Education; Program Officer at the GAP Foundation; and Program Fellow for the Environment at The San Francisco Foundation. Jack has also served on the Management Committee of the Environmental Grantmakers Association. He has an extensive background in environmental education and environmental studies, having been a board member, consultant, and staff member for a number of local and national nonprofit organizations and foundations. Jack previously worked in college student services administration at Oberlin College and Stanford University. He holds B.A. and M.A. degrees from Stanford University. Michael Dimock - President Michael has worked in the agricultural sector for seventeen years. After working for a multinational agribusiness company in Europe and California, Michael turned his focus to sustainable agriculture and high value marketing strategies to ensure that small and medium size producers would survive amidst global corporate consolidation. From 1992 to 2006, he founded and directed a unique organization, Ag Innovations Network, which provides strategic planning and consensus building services to rural communities, farming and food companies, and government agencies focused on sustainability. From 2000 to the present he has been a central player in the international Slow Food Movement, both as Chairman of Slow Food USA (until January of 2006) and as a member of the Slow Food International Board. He has also been Chairman of the Board of the Community Alliance with Family Farmers, the state’s oldest organization dedicated to sustainable family farms. Michael came to the ROC Fund following his leadership, as a grantee, of the ROC effort to build a statewide leadership network. Michael holds a B.A. in history from the University of California Los Angeles, and a Masters in International Affairs from Columbia University. Carin D'Oliva - Trust for Conservation Innovation, Fiscal Sponsor and Financial Systems Ann Dowley, Ph.D. - Consultant, Organization Development Ann has been providing strategic planning and organizational development consulting services to nonprofits and philanthropic foundations since 1995. As a Senior Associate at BTW, Ann engages clients in strategic planning processes, leadership development, change management and organizational learning. Prior to joining the BTW team, Ann served as executive director of Common Counsel Foundation, a consortium of family foundations that supports environmental, economic and social policy reform through grassroots organizing, advocacy and education. With a keen eye on process and stakeholder engagement, Ann is savvy at managing large-scale strategic initiatives. At Blue Shield of California, she guided the change management strategies for an enterprise-wide data warehouse project and a project management best practices initiative. Her content areas of expertise include health, mental health, social justice and social change. Ann has a Ph.D. in Organizational Psychology from the California School of Organizational Studies, Alliant University. She earned her B.A. in Political Economy at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. Having lived in Argentina for three years, Ann is proficient in Spanish. Alison Edwards - Consultant, Research and Communications Ali has worked within the sustainable food industry for over sixteen years. She has wide experience across the breadth of California’s sustainable food system, having worked as a farmer, chef, writer, and researcher, and as a communications and strategy consultant for both businesses and non-profits. Ali is one of the founding farmers of Dirty Girl Produce, a small direct-to-market fresh-vegetable truck farm in Santa Cruz, Ca. She has worked as a communications and strategy consultant for such organizations as The Natural Step, Straus Communications, and Ecotrust. Her research, writing, and strategy skills have recently been employed towards a variety of long-term, multi-stakeholder sustainability planning projects around food and energy. In 2006, she conducted a study for Ag Innovations of seventeen California counties to identify leaders interested in participating in The New Mainstream and the Agriculture Futures Alliances. Ali holds a B.A. in Political Philosophy from UC Santa Cruz and a M.A. in Rhetoric from UC Berkeley. Lameise Hijazi - Executive Assistant A San Francisco native, Lameise has worked as an Executive and Personal Assistant for over a decade in San Francisco and San Mateo Counties prior to joining Roots of Change. An exceptional communicator and true team player, Lameise is adept at managing the different moving parts of an organization like ROC. In college, Lameise has studied Fire Science Technologies, Psychology, and Speech Communications. She is also an Emergency Medical Technician, and a member of the San Francisco Paramedics Association. In her spare time, Lameise volunteers on a local level, giving back to her community and assisting those in need. Lameise is currently working toward her B.A. in Psychology and Speech Communications at San Francisco State University. Daniel Kramer- Director of Development Daniel has worked directly in sustainable agriculture, federal agriculture policy and sustainable agriculture research. During college, Daniel worked for Morris Grassfed Beef in San Juan Batista, and from 2002-2004, helped manage logistics and business operations at Swanton Berry Farm, an organic, all-union strawberry farm in northern Santa Cruz County. Over the past seven years, Daniel has worked as official staff for two Members of Congress, Rush Holt (NJ-12) and Anna Eshoo (CA-14). As district staff to Representative Eshoo in her California office, Daniel developed an expertise in agricultural, environmental and energy policy, and organized outreach to agricultural communities in rural San Mateo and Santa Cruz Counties. Daniel has also volunteered his time to work on numerous local and congressional election campaigns. In his spare time Daniel assists his wife, Rebecca Chaplin-Kramer, with her PhD research focused on beneficial insects in agricultural landscapes at the Environmental Science, Policy and Management department at U.C. Berkeley. Daniel holds a B.A. in history from Stanford University. Nicole Mason - Consultant, Network Relations Nicole has worked in agriculture and sustainable food systems both nationally and abroad. After studying International Agriculture and Development at Cornell University, Nicole received a graduate-level research award to spend one year researching organic cropping systems in New Zealand. Once back in the US, Nicole moved to New York where she worked at the New York Botanical Garden and taught classes in plant science and botany. Prior to working at the ROC Fund, Nicole served as Program Director for an environmental organization focused on local, sustainable agriculture and cuisine. Her main focus was connecting local farmers to markets in New York City. Joseph McIntyre - Consultant, Process Facilitation Joseph McIntyre is the Executive Director of Ag Innovations Network, a non-profit organization dedicated to creating a sustainable food system. He joined Ag Innovations in 2001 and over the past five years has headed the expansion of the Ag Futures Alliance—a project that brings together growers, environmentalists, and community leaders to find local solutions to agricultural sustainability. Joseph is a skilled facilitator who combines his academic training (MA in Organization Development, MA in Economics) with twenty-five years of experience as a leader in commercial and non-profit organizations. He spent seven years leading the Expressive Therapy Institute, where Natalie Rogers, the daughter of the noted American psychologist Carl Rogers, mentored him in person-centered facilitation. He has held management and leadership positions at Pacific Bell, MCI, MicroDesign Resources, and O’Reilly and Associates. Joseph’s experience with agriculture and sustainability began in the early 70’s when he attended the University of the Pacific in Stockton, California. There he was simultaneously exposed to the rich farming heritage of California and the work of sustainability thinkers such as Herman Daly and Donella Meadows. Joseph holds a BA in Liberal Arts with Honors from the University of the Pacific in Stockton, CA, a MA in Economics from the University of Rhode Island and a MA in Psychology, Organization Development focus, from Sonoma State University. Jon Ramer - Consultant, Social Networking Jon is the Executive Director and Co-Founder of the Interra Project, along with Greg Steltenpohl (Founder of Odwalla Juices) and Dee Hock (Chairman Emeritus VISA International). The mission of the Interra Project is to empower citizen consumers by aligning our deepest human values with our daily economic activities. Prior to the Interra Project, Jon founded three communication technology businesses: (1) SmartChannels Inc., a collaborative web publishing system used by The Densho Project (www.densho.org), the Smithsonian Folkways GlobalSound (www.globalsound.org), and the University of Washington. While at SmartChannels he was a founding member of the HR-XML Consortium, the largest independent non-profit organization dedicated to the development and promotion of a standard suite of XML specifications to enable e-business; (2) ELF Technologies, Inc. to provide a collaborative communication and document management system connecting lawyers and their clients. ELF Technologies developed a client base of over 7,000 law firms and was acquired by IKON Office Solutions. While at ELF Technologies he was a founding member of the Uniform Task Based Billing Management System along with the American Bar Association, American Corporate Counsel Association, and Price Waterhouse LLP; and (3) Ramer and Associates (RA), which worked in conjunction with Action Technologies Inc. to develop and distribute the first “groupware” software program, The CoordinatorTM. Business Design Associates acquired Ramer and Associates in 1989. In 2005, Jon was the Chairman of the Best Practices Working Group operating within the Access to Justice Technology Bill of Rights in the Washington State Supreme Court. |
